What are the dimensions of the table? Are you going to run passenger on the outside and freight on the inside tracks? I have "C" & "K" track in storage plus "M" track that was my fathers and hasn't been used for over 30 years.

Didnt like to mention Stephen (until now) but if you are going to exhibit then C track will give you much more reliable running. Also better electrical contact and hidden turnout decoders etc.
I understand you using M track as you have plenty which is why most folk use it. At an exhibition you may find somebody new who wants to get into the hobby and buy Marklin and of course there are no sets with M track and explaining it can only be bought second hand etc may out new people off buying.
You are probably exhibiting where most will not no about Marklin which is why I would use C or K track. At an exhibtion C track can be replaced vrry easily if required.

dave PS please note this is not about which track is best but which is best for an exhibtion layout in Ireland.

As above.
People do not care, to some degree, what type of tracks you are using. they just like to see running trains.
England could be different, as more people are into train modelling, train spotting and there are lots of proptotype trains steaming around the country side.
In Australia, Perth, Western Australia, exhibitions are ok but the interest is'nt there in the first place, young people have got different hobbies and are'nt into train modelling and charging an entry fee is un-democratic regardless how much it cost you to set up an exhibition.

Congratulations Stephen.
I applaud anyone who has the equipment, patience, and time required to attend an exhibition.
While you do get a lot out of interaction with other exhibitors, and viewers, it is hard work, for which you get no remuneration.

Hi Stephen,

Just saw that you are back at the exhibition layout.Great stuff. ThumpUp

Is this the track pieces that will bridge from one baseboard to the next.

If it is then my idea would be,

Cut the track with a fine blade in your hacksaw.

Always match those 2 pieces together.

Solder live and earth connections to each track section, push in connection's to join.

Screw track sections down at that point,to remain lined up.

As long as the baseboards are well located together the tracks will be ok.

Ian.

Stephen, you might want to send a PM to Clapcott, he has plenty of experience with cutting track pieces for joins in modular layouts, such as our club layout, which has 4 modules.

Stephen,

are you sure your board is not 170mm x 100mm, someone cheated you out of 1cm x 2cmBigGrin
Its good to hear you back into it.

I'm sorry I didn't follow your post but I could have had a solution for your problems between boards.

In the beginning when I build my layout and everything was based on modules, the first boards I've prepared, all the tracks cam right to the end.
Of course when we put them away, we pushed them into a cage like a draw and most the time the track connectors got caught ripping the track off the sleepers.
The solution was simple, we've inserted smaller tracks, e.g. 188mm in lenght and this served 2 purposes, a.) we took these little tracks off before sliding it into the cage and secondly, having 6 or seven tracks it was difficult to align them all up correctly but having smaller pieces we were able to connect them enough so the connecting tongue had been secure with each track and this helped us to slide the boards together with out any problem.
Anyhow it is too late for that now and I hope your ideas will soon be seen on your exhibition layout.
another option you always have on hand use the converting tracks available to connect m and c track.
regarding m-turnouts there are decoders available.

Hope to see more soon,

regards.,
John

Nice! Good to share Marklin with the British model RR fans.

Rumor has it that some Brits don't even like to see the Brit-Rail engines with smoke deflectors that resemble the German Type. I donno, perhaps those feelings stem from the German attempts and World Domination in the early-mid 20th century?

Anyway, great looking layout with plenty of 'eye appeal'. Lots of stuff going on to hold people's interest.

Question: Do you plan on running more than one train at a time? If so, how many.

I, like Yum, am very interested in the placement and action of the signals along the layout.

Best Wishes!!!

Testors have an "Aged Concrete" colour which is a light grey but it is too bright and clean looking so after applying the paint, weather it straight away with a dirty brush ! Wink

Steven, correction on the paint brand, it is actually Floquil, (made by Testors) Blushing Wink Smile

Edit; but I just see you may have solved that problem but I can't open your photo as it's a bit big for the system Confused

Hi Stephen

Looking back at your photos of the platforms, you say you have used soft plank wood. Is that balsa or just soft pine wood?

What about the pattern and knots in the pine, does your platform paint hide that?Unsure

Stephen,

This is the first time I've seen your thread, you have a nice little layout coming together. I've also been thinking about building a portable layout to take places and show off, this definitely gives some inspirtation.

I also like the way you painted the track for the road crossing. I never could figure what to do this on my old layout, your idea is simple and easy plus it looks good. Thanks!
