Hi,

I have an unsual probblem in that my CS1 (60212) has suddenly stopped recognising my MFX locos. All was well until there was a sudden power outage and when power resumed, the CS1 problem started. All other decoders such as the 6090 and Delta decoders work properly.

I tried resetting the CS1 and reloading the configuration but it still doesnt work.

Would appreciate some advice from fellow marklin railroaders.

Thanks.
Liew

Could be a hardware problem (mfx receiver faded away as the power failed) or a software problem (CS1 forgot configuration changes due to power failure).

You can try all the "mfx loco won't register" procedures. Restoring the configuration should normally do the trick though.
With software 3.4.2 there is a screen where you can force mfx locos to re-register.
Other mfx controllers (MS1, MS2, ...) you can try your locos on before you try them on the CS1 again?

I presume your CS1 was not "reloaded" yet. Will make a difference when it comes to repair options.
Regards
Tom

Hi Tom,
Thanks for your quick reply. My CS1 has hardware version of 1.2 and software version 2.0.3. How and from where can I download the version 3.4.2 mentioned by you. Also where can I obtain the "mfx loco won't register" procedures.

Thanks,
liew

You have to purchase the CS1 Reloaded pack from ESU (item 59990). This provides you with a new 90va power pack and the software to upgrade your CS1 to v3.0. From there, you register your CS1 with ESU, and that gives you the ability to download and upgrade to the later software versions - i.e. v3.4.2.

The cost is about 150 euros, and you need to provide the serial number of your CS1 to the dealer you purchase the CS1R from, as the software is locked for that serial number only - i.e. you can't load it on to another CS1.

Hi Bigdaddynz,

Thanks for the info and I had already checked out the website. However, there are no dealers in the Malaysia / Singapore area and I need to find a reliable dealer from Europe.

Is there any other way to get the mfx loco to re register themselves? I also found out that new mfx locos also does not automatically register themselves anymore unlike before where they did automatically.

Thanks,
liew

Bad sign, so probably the mfx receiver is damaged.

Märklin won't fix it, they'll offer a CS2 instead. Some say CS2 is better, but I prefer CS1 reloaded.

ESU will fix it when it is reloaded. So it's the ESU upgrade (around Euro 150) plus ESU repair (Euro 100 fixed price) plus postage to get it fully functional again.

If you get the ESU upgrade you can disable mfx and run mfx locos using the MM protocol. Only 9 functions per loco, but allows to postpone the repair.

Or look for a CS1, CS1 reloaded, or ECoS from second hand.

Tom
