Monster, it worked for me!! Like I said in a previous post "there are dreamers and there are doers" and you are "gettin'er done", no sh#t!!
I have never seen a layout of this quality and scale come together this quickly and "that is a roundhouse "to die for". I only have a classic Marklin tinplate shed. Keep it up. I am following your progress, here in
Seattle, WA, USA.
Good Jule!!!

Thanx mate.Ive relaxed a bit with my feet(and head) in the sand.So not much happened lately.I did however put a couple of hours in with the paintbrush here and there.

I also finished my diesel depot(just need to weather here and there)and my transport yard is in progress,as well as my sawmill/lumberyard.

I will take some pictures just now.

Right as promised,a little update.

Added a little greys and blacks to the mountain. Will do the brighter colors last.

Also added some scenery and a road to the hotel

Finished my diesel depot.Just need to weather here and there.

View from the track down past the depot

Then around the corner.Note the ravine also got some color

Idea here is to build a little hang bridge down into the ravine. With some fishermen down below and some tents and a fire hehehehe

this is the road up to the hotel.Still need to do a lot of work here

Woooohooo,at last the sheds are full

This week i still want to finish the transport yard

And the lumber yard/sawmill next week.I love this building.Very nice detail and the working saw and turning waterwheel gives a bit of life to this side of the layout.

I got some extra little bits of timber and another little store facility that i must still build for here.

And lastly,a sort of overview from 2 sides of the layout.

Ta for looking.

Excellent! This roundhouse is really impressive Smile, with at least 45,000 hp of steam power [:0] inside. BTW this would be a nice quiz question.

Ah thanx guys.I think im going to use this space to put some of my thoughts down too. Please feel free to disagree.

Im starting to do structures seperately.2 reasons really,it is easier to work away from the layout, and secondly,it tends to make me do more detail. If it is lying on my workbench, its easy to correct little flaws.

Its also easier to do different levels then.Main thing now is the lumber yard, and then the station.I want to really take my time doing that.

Hehehehe, you guys must surely think im 2 people, but im not.Keep in mind that i bought the whole roundhouse complete.I just weathered it.

This far ive build the 2 coal yards and the crane. The mine and the bell factory.6 houses and about 8 trackside accessories. Also the sawmill and the 3 buildings surrounding it,and all the scenery.Oh yes,and the diesel depot and the sheds in the transport yard was also done by me.

If you have spare time like i do,its actually quite easy.I seldom do more than 4 hours a day now.Im aiming to pick the pace up a bit.biggrinbiggrin

Ive also have plenty ideas in me head.I want to do a cableway, and i am going to build a really big harbour.Ive set 4m by 1m against a wall away for harbour only.I love ships as well. And it will be awesome to do a really nice water bit.Something like this will blow me away.

Obviously that will need a large ore mine somewhere too....hehehehehe.

Anyhat, lots of ideas to keep me busy for a looooooong time. And i tend to play more with the trains now too, instead of working. Not good. But thats what they are there for.[:I]

That's "Bagger 288", world's biggest bucket-wheel excavator. This thing is so huge even in H0 scale it'd be more than 3 feet high and 10 feet long....[:0]

I took a couple of pictures just now.Its been slow going looks-wise.This is the part of the layout process that i walk around it with hands full of dirt and plants and stones and stuff......

So you wont really see anything new,bar the timber yard, but to those of you that followed this thread, you will pick up on some new track ballasting and grass here and there.

Right,as i said before,i wanted to build the timber yard away from the layout.I did so.....partly.Long story short, this is how it turned out.

That was the start of it,shaping the polystirene into something that will fit the space.

Eventually i had the thing in place.

Added some detail and lights

And water(which i still suck at)

And an overview of the thing

I need to weather the shiny truck still and also do more grass and stuff.Lots of ballast too.

And then there is the stuff you have already seen.I finally got around to adding water to 1 side of the ravine and roughly built the bridge. This will get painted to look ropey and so forth.

Weathered a bit of the coal bunker.I will finish this off with the airbrush when i do final detail.

Tried my best to hide bad benchwork here. The walls are from Faller.3D sort of look to them.I like the finer 1 more, but as a trial this one didnt turn out too bad.

Some little extras like bushes and so forth

Something to keep the kids busy

And this side ive been detailing and coloring in.Nothing spectacular

Again,my initial benchwork sucked here. But im learning. With a couple of bits here and there i should pull this off.I love the look of that wall though.Pity the cow isnt straight though.

And lastly,an overview from the backside of the layout.

Thanx for looking nad next time will be better. Its going to be station time soon.Cant wait.

Hi Riekus,

Good progress on your layout. Texture and colour are the key words for any layout and yours has plenty wink

It looks as though you made your video at night, hence the dark pictures. I have found it best to film in daylight hours or if this isn't possible place some flood lights on either side of your video camera.

Hi guys. Its been a while.I have been extremely busy with actual work.biggrinSo the layout got moved into the background a bit.

So,nothing much has happened.I built a couple of new structures and finally got around to start the station.

I also sat and looked at my handiwork this far,and felt something was missing.Sooo,i added bits and pieces here and there.I also finally painted the roundhouse roof hehehehe. So its more of the same.

Lets see now.

I thought this was one of the best looking stations.Very pretty building.

My head left me,and i built an interior into this.Complete with wooden floors and restaurant.Difficult to see inside....but trust me,its there.

Ive decided that im going to fit an ore dock in my future. So i will need more mines to feed the ships.I added this pieces where eventually im going to have another coal mine.My ore dock will be coal.

I also brought the return line from the future new board back to after the exit line,so the trains have to do a full loop of the current layout

Also painted here and added people

And after a long hard stare at the layout i decided that even though my boards dont look too shabby,it needs sort of "finishing off".So i decided to add a mountain to the rear.In future im also going to run a 10cm piece right round the outer edge with scenery and telephone lines and so forth.Maybe a road here and there.Just to "border the layout.I think this might give it a more complete look.

Anyways...the mountain

This picture sort of explains the idea.If you look in the mountain just gives a definite end to things hehehehe

I have the far left corner of the layout to do still, and this crusher building has to fit in here somewhere.Any ideas on how to make heaps of stone?

I then did the platforms for the station.Weathered here and there and so forth

And that is that.Thanx for watching.

Could you consider doing some new photoes in a walk around fashion so we can see the entire layout as you see it?

Each board is 2.83m by 1.83.Ive done the first 2 now(nearly) and i will then add the 3rd one at a slightly higher level to the other 2.So i will have 10 square metres plus another 1.2 added on as in the pictures, which contains industrial stuff.

The third board will see me run all my tracks into a single main line.Every board can run trains in a circle on its own.The third one will be no different. It will also make a full loop but split up to return to the current part in a passenger line and a freight line.Opposite directions.

I will then be on about 16.5 squares and then all hell will break loose......

Ive opened up the back of my garage.I will then run the single main line down to a coast area, where i will have an ore dock and a big ass ship. And then back up to the third board.

I want around 15minutes travel time.I have got 6.4m by 2.7 to play with after the third board. Also another 4m by 1m to do a train storage area.

The final thing should be around 40 square metres.

Howzit. After a fairly hard week workwise,i decided yesterday(saturday) that some hours need to be put in.

Nobody said this hobby isnt time consuming.During the week ive built another structure.A cement factory and combined this on the same site as the crusher.

I also plastered the previous mountain.

Not really in the mood to work on things,i redid the water at the bell factory.

I also decided that the platforms at the station were too small. So i bought another 1 and extended them

Then my mind went south.I wanted another mountain to finish off the backside of the layout.A little mountain pass with a singular return track from the new board and so forth.

It became a mountain of epic proporsions.Nearly 6 feet tall. That means a full 1m from board level. And the ideas starte flowing again.Up there will be another mine.Ive done 1 little entrance, but did the benchwork for a little n-scale layout with little shunters and ore wagons with another 2 entrances.....

Just a little roundabout layout in and out of the mountain.I will need ideas here.and lots of help.Ivew put a full 20 hours in 2 days into this mountain. Its rough still but it will get there.

And lastly a sort of overview from the shed side.

Im shot...time to sleep. This week will be busy again,so it will only be little things that will get done.

Thanx for watching.

Thanx guys.Orubias,me and me alone. My wife did paint a bit of a mountain one day long ago....but she is too short to reach anywhere.biggrin

Im trying new stuff all the time.Hehehehe,at the moment im trying to do a cliff face that is supposed to look like it was shot in there.Im using a credit card for this.No other use for it biggrinbiggrin

It looks like ive done a lot,but im pushing 6 months now and i havent finished 11 squares.Keep in mind,no signals yet,no telephone lines and very few fences.Little or no rocks on either board and a lot of detailing still to be done.

So it looks impressive, but its the easy work thats done.Stuff like this cliff face is very time consuming.Ive done about 200mm of cliff face in the same time it takes me to paint and detail a whole mountain.

I left my camera in a buddy's car. Will take some pics tomorrow again.

Ohhhh,im having fun ok hehehehe.Sooo,it was easter week-end.I had 4 days of working on the lay-out.

I made the most of it.I painted the first mountain last week already, and just scattered trees onto it for now...for a bit of color.

It does make for interesting views from the factory side.

Last weekend i carved some texture into the lastest mountain.Took me ages. This was easily the hardest job this far.I tried the moulds. But it just doesnt give the texture i wanted. These moulds make the mountain look ummm....uuuuuhh....well...moulded.biggrin

I wanted a rougher look, which i think i got right.Im still painting the thing, but the bit with the mine entrance is nearly there.Wad of orange here and there...bit of ochre and it should be right.

Went to visit Koert. He changed his mind yet again, and he is now going American steam. So he had this mine standing there that he built last year.Looks like a pimple on a blonds bum on his layout,so i took it.

A bit rough around the edges, but i will sort it.

Right on to the easter update.Man,ive put in quality time.Coupled up all the lights at the station

That was fairly quick to do,but this little building standing opposite the station had no interior. So i put some life into it.

That took a while.I was burning to lay my curved track on the pass. And when that was down it was Sunday hehehhe. And with 3 tracks in midair....whats to do??????I added my third board and all i can say is WHOW!

Its unbelievable what a bit of runtime does for a layout.I had the third board running half past 3 this morning. It added over 2 minutes to my travel time.Awesome.It came out better than i thought.Everything is obviously still loose on there.I will start glueing stuff down later.

Monsterville is now growing into a decent shape and size.

This third board is going to be my town area.8 blocks is the plan.I cant wait to start with it.

Best part is that i fitted this board higher than the other 2,so it adds a nice dimension to the overall look of the layout.

Thanx for watching...

Hehehehe, when im out of space. This was my original idea for the layout.I wanted to do 3 modules.First one was supposed to be the roundhouse and trainyard.Second one was supposed to be the industrial area and station.

Third one is going to be my town.At the back of the layout you will see an alley going down. This alley gives me another 6.8m by 2.4m room space. This will be my coast line.I want to do a harbour area as well. How i dont know yet.But it will run along the wall of this alley.Nice long 6.4m straights and i want the trains to go down, back up and down again and back to the current lay-out.

In total i should have a 80m main line.I have another idea for where my workbench is now.But this is far in the future.biggrin

What started as a very innocent little border mountain, turned into a collossus.

It was never supposed to be this big.Total for this one alone is around 35kg plaster. And its not remotely done yet.

Here goes....

I wanted a mine,so i did an interior in it.Will take better pictures as soon as everything is dry.

Its a big mountain

Note the mountain building for the cableway

And a sort of an overview from the far side

Lastly, had a visitor today on the lay-out.Go check painting and weathering and i will post pictures of the train.Koert is going to kill me.....

nice progress !
now I know the car paintings on the walls may bring fond memories, but this is now a train room, what I am looking for now is some sky and distant mountains painted on the walls... it will add tremendous depth to the train layout.....

3 clocks Dale.Dont let me catch you losing your eye for detail.wink

About the background.....all in good time.Im still squeezing my petite little frame through there all the time.A background wont last a day hehehehe.

I want to do a decent background with proper oil paint.I did some "skildering" when i was younger. But rugby was the man's choice as you know....so im rusted to bits.

Weird question (from me [:0] ?):

In the picture looking up the mountain from the Bell Foundry - you have a bell on a flat car - where did you get a bell like that? I am also planning to do the bell foundry on my layout wink.

Thanks and keep it up! You are getting us all in the Spirit!!

Jim (In the Spirits!)

p.s. Is the dart board still regulation distance over the layout?

JIM!!!!Hehehe, its a Marklin item, item no 84866.Dont know what year it came out.It does have the exclusive stamp.Bought it out a private collection.Cant be too old as it is NEM.There is one in your side of the world available here:http://www.eurobahntrains.com/product_listing.asp?cat=F&brand=Marklin&gauge=HO&subcat=&PageIndex=9

The dartboard makes a lovely storage place for smoker fluid and needles.....

Thanks for the link Riekus! Now to talk with the Finance Director [:0]

I can not imagine mountains too big or too tall biggrinCool (I feel like a "Supreme"! Cool )

Maybe we should add this to the "Quiz" Section - "Find the 3 clocks!" (I am still looking for the second one...[:I])

I kind of did not see dart holes as an effective weathering item on rolling stock biggrin - much better for storage, and keeps the fluid bottles off the layout! [:p]

Finally gave some color to the whole thing.Needs touching up here and there, but i am humming along nicely.

Started detailing the mine.Added some dieseltanks up there, and the start of a heap of coal.Ive got a little Kibri dragline that i want to put up here.

Also fitted a fence.I will do the rest of it tomorrow.

Also started covering the bits ive finished painting

Sort of an overview of the start of the mine

It makes for some interesting photos.I think when im done here and all the dust is worked in,it can be quite nice

And as usual,an overview from up top in the house

Thanx for watching
